Not up for new experiences !

Updated: Mar 11, 2023

I am not up for new experiences now. I sit back at my room or my favorite eating places and take regular Masala chai and a piece of roasted burfi. I recently visited Jaipur.

Wait! That wasn't a new experience though.

I have been there before for, it has always held me spellbound. The simplicity of people which I see here at mountains resonates with the people out there. The place hasn't changed much, maybe I have. The journey via train brings innumerable experiences itself. The rumble, the sudden jerks, the crying baby, a furious tea vendor and the high pitched person asking for the veg dinner you would like to have on your plate is everything you come across.

Alright...let's talk Jaipur. So, at a well-lit railway station, a clean one, thousands of people commuting and I was waiting for my cab holding a bag on my shoulder, keeping a hand on a trolley and regularly checking my phone and wallet. The cab took me to the place I was about to stay and the commute to the hotel was a flashback. The pink city, people with long mustache and beard, the camel cart and a number of traditional shops. Way back in the early twenties when I came to this place, I was young. I still am, but the electrons have found the perfect shell for now. "Khamma Ghani" the hotel staff greeted! They swirled a garland majestically and it rested on my shoulders for a while. I took my luggage to the room and took a deep sigh. Ahh! The bed was springy. I rested for a while before going out to explore a bit. I wasn't here for a vacay but for a conference. I went out to see Johari bazaar, Chauda rasta and wandered everywhere I could manage in a tiny slot. In the evening, I went to Chokhi Dhani with a few fellows who were there for the same conference. The perfectly crafted simulation of Rajasthani heritage and village, this place is a delight for first-time visitors. The stroll over the area and the dinner later (typical Rajasthani cuisine) finally brought some peace to my soul. I was away from thoughts, if's and but's. I was there, present in the very moment.

Though I missed hills sometimes and then I sat across a bonfire. The people talked about the culture...the enriched Rajasthani culture and compared it with theirs. I was just observing because this was the only chance to write something new. A junior from college and a girl from another college were my friends for the evening. We remembered our hostel days and conversed a bit about hers. The laughter, the smiles and the warmth of bonfire complemented everything well. Finally, we headed back to our hotel, waved goodbye at each other. The city lights were spectacular and the monuments for which the royal Rajasthan is known for were splendidly covered with decorative arts and lights.

The eyes were getting shut, and the journey to the hotel was long. I tried to keep myself awake. After reaching the hotel I took a hot shower, to take away all the tiredness. I rejoiced the vibes and fell asleep quickly, very quickly. Now that I am back in my own town Palampur, I am here at my favorite Red Cafe, thinking about all the experiences I have had. The same old seat, the same old sun, the same masala chai and the burfi for making the memories sweeter. I am not up for new experiences, revisiting the old places, knitting new pieces of the story is all I need.
